As the weather gets nicer, all I want to is spend time outdoors. We only get a few months out of the year with this beautiful weather so we might as well take advantage while we’re able to. A way to do this is to swap your indoor workouts to an activity outdoors. It’s a great way to get moving while also getting some fresh air.
Here are different ways to exercise outdoors.
Go for a bike ride
Montreal is definitely a city full of bikes and bike riders. It is a nice exercise to do when the weather is hot since you still get the breeze when riding. Take the opportunity in a new sunny day to go on a bike ride around your neighbourhood or along the Lakeshore.
Bike riding targets your glutes, hamstrings, quads, calves, arms, shoulders, and back. What makes outdoor biking even better than indoor cycling is that an outdoor biking may target your core better than a stationary bike since balance is needed when riding a bike outdoors.
Yoga in the park
Get a nice stretch in the fresh air while doing yoga in the park. Find a quiet space, set up a mat and complete a yoga session. Going early in the morning can help find a quieter spot with less people, while listening to the birds chirp and watching the sunrise.
Yoga targets all areas of the body, where it is great for flexibility and relaxation.
Join a sport!
Joining a recreational sport can get you exercising outdoors regularly. If joining a team sport, it is even an opportunity to socialize with new people.
There are so many sports that go on during the summer time to sign up for!
Tennis
Soccer
Basketball
Volleyball
Baseball
Softball
Hit the outdoor gym
There are so many outdoor gyms that have opened in the past couple years. They have gym equipment that can usually be found in local parks. This is the closest way to get a gym workout without having to be indoors.
Swimming
The last couple years, I have really been enjoying going to the pool and swimming. I do laps almost every day throughout the summer.
Swimming is a full body workout where basically all our muscles are being used to stay afloat and swim. Swimming targets upper body muscles such as your lats and traps and the muscles in your chest and arms.
Find an outdoor space
We really don’t need special equipment or a specific space to get in an outdoor workout. Find a space outdoors, whether it be in your backyard, at a park or somewhere out in nature. Get your plan for the workout and get to work!
